About this Webinar

This second webinar in the Therapas professional development series takes a practical and compassionate look at therapist wellbeing through the lens of Polyvagal Theory (you can access the first training here). It’s for psychologists and allied health professionals who want to stay steady, connected, and effective in their work—without tipping into exhaustion.

Burnout is often framed as a personal weakness. In truth, it’s more often a nervous system response to ongoing pressure, threat, and emotional overload. Many in caring professions know the signs: fatigue that lingers, feeling disconnected from the work, or the quiet belief that you’ve got nothing left to give. It’s often called “compassion fatigue,” but that’s not quite right. The real culprit is empathy fatigue—the strain of absorbing another person’s pain as your own.

In this session, I’ll show how empathy can push us into survival mode, while compassion—rooted in a regulated nervous system—helps us remain grounded, present, and steady. You’ll learn how to notice your own state shifts before they escalate, how to use quick “micro-resets” between sessions, and how to develop daily nervous system habits that keep you resourced. I’ll also introduce simple compassion-based practices, like Loving-Kindness Meditation, that can help strengthen your emotional steadiness over time.

Whether you’re just starting with Polyvagal Theory or you’ve been working with it for years, you’ll leave with practical tools you can use right away—so you can keep doing the work you care about, without burning yourself out.
