Continuing Professional Development (CPD) refers to the process through which professionals maintain and enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities throughout their careers. CPD is an essential component of maintaining professional competence and ethical practice as an Accredited Social Worker.

What Counts as CPD for an Accredited Social Worker?
An Accredited Social Worker must undertake 10 hours of Category 1 supervision, 15 hours of Category 2 Skills & Knowledge and 5 hours of Category 3 Professional Identity.
Category 1 Supervision can be met by:
- Receiving supervision;
- Receiving professional mentoring;
- Receiving professional coaching; and
- Receiving professional consultation (such as contacting the AASW Ethics and Practice Standards Consultation Service).
Category 2 Skills and Knowledge can be met (amongst other things) by:
- Conferences;
- On demand learning; and,
- Webinars.
Category 3 Professional Identity can be met by a range of professional activities including networking, presenting, publishing, and consultation.
The AASW CPD cycle runs over the financial year from 1 July – 30 June
What CPD evidence is required for an Accredited Social Worker?
Accredited Social Workers are responsible for keeping a record of their CPD activity in the AASW’s recording system known as ‘My CPD Record’. More information is available here. You required to keep evidence of all CPD activities for a minimum of 2 years. The AASW recommends that you upload your evidence to your electronic CPD record in your member centre.
